Volkswagen experimented throughout the 1970s and tried to attract more customers by offering the Polo in a three-box configuration under the name Derby. Clcompany is delighted to feature the facts about the 1977’s Classic Volkswagen Derby.
Flashback
The management was pleased with the Golf’s unexpected and enormous success. The little hatchback was a money-making machine that helped fund other endeavors. The Audi 50, which was too pricey for that market segment, was converted into a Volkswagen Polo as the initial stage. The R&D staff then built the Derby by adding a trunk to the compact hatchback as the public requested sedans. It was another huge success as it outsold the three-door Polo in sales in 1977.
Years in production – 1977 to 1981
The Design
The Volkswagen Derby 1977 boasts a luxurious design that is intended to conceal even more details under a captivating black tone. There is a sizable music system in the front console that makes for a fun driving experience.
The interior’s design was uninspired, with a simple dashboard that was broken up by two vents in the middle. The automaker put a shelf underneath it that stretched the entire width of the vehicle. The only two gauges on the instrument panel were a speedometer and an analog clock. Volkswagen relies on warning lights for additional crucial information such as coolant temperature or oil pressure. Four adults could use it with no problems.
