The Historical Cars Association of India (HCAI) organized a first-of-its-kind Pan India Vintage and Classic Car Show on 27th August at the Rayala Techno Park at the Hotel Turyya Campus on Old Madras Road.
The car enthusiasts from all across the nation showcased their vintage beauties in the event, from the beautiful curves of the Rolls Royce to the aggressive lines of the Bentley. This year’s event has experienced substantial development as the annual vehicle show evolved into a national spectacle. Prominent organizations from cities included HMCI from Delhi, VCCCI from Mumbai, EMCI from Kolkata, KVCCCI from Bengaluru, and Madras Heritage Motoring Club from Chennai were among the participants.
Sandeep Rai Rathore, Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police was the chief guest at the function. He appreciated the owners of the vintage cars for maintaining them in good condition. He also requested them to consider safety first.
Ranjit Pratap, President of HCAI stated that the Vintage Car Fraternity of India had been planning such a show for a while, but the epidemic caused a delay. But despite all the obstacles and despite the rain and flooding in the western and northern zones, HCAI was able to attract a sizable amount of participants from these two areas, totaling about 20 cars. The oldest vehicle on show was T Ford from 1926, one of the rare historic vehicles. This was the first initiative of this type from HCAI and its Committee. President Pratap hopes it will become an annual occasion with longer travels from Chennai to other significant South Asian locations.
The highlight of this year’s event was the display of priceless artwork from the past, which includes vehicles once owned by royal families (like the Bentley of Baroda Maharani Shanta Devi), pre-and post-war European and American cars like Austin, Mercedes, and Jeep, as well as vehicles connected to Hollywood stars like Bentley. Along with prestigious Indian classics like the Ambassador and Fiat’s offerings, American muscle power was also displayed through the renowned Ford Mustang.
On August 28, a rally from Chennai to Puducherry was held as part of the exhibition, and afterward, the automobiles were displayed at the Radisson Hotel in Puducherry. The show of these vintage cars took back in time to a time when these road-ruling automobile gems were fashionable.
