It was in the year 1973, just a year before the launch of the iconic Golf, that the Passat was launched demonstrating its dynamic personality. With its two or four doors and large tailgate – a hatchback sedan, it was more versatile than any Volkswagen that had come before.
The Passat was 4.19 meters in length, it was impressively spacious – a trend that continued in 1974 with the even more spacious Passat Estate.
Vintage Passat B1
B1 was the first model of the car and it ran from 1973 to 1980. Just a year into the launch of Passat a station wagon version appeared. The station wagon Passat had a longer rear overhang to accommodate a bigger trunk. It had only one engine available, a 1.5-litre unit. Two years later, a 1.6-litre fuel-injected engine was introduced.
